ADHD Awareness Month

October Recognizes Breast Cancer, Mental Health screenings, Domestic Violence, Health Literacy, ADHD Awareness, and more. This month, we honor all of these observances, the people affected by them, and our role in providing accessible, comprehensive care and support to our communities.  October 2026 marks ADHD Awareness Month, a dedicated global campaign spearheaded by coalitions like CHADD and the Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA) to provide reliable information, dispel myths, and reduce the stigma surrounding ADHD. This year’s theme, A Community of Support, emphasizes sharing resources, expert guidance, and community stories to help individuals navigate diagnosis, medication shortages, and daily management.

While there are no specific city-wide official government proclamations or massive isolated ADHD-exclusive festivals in these specific North Carolina towns, residents across the Triangle (Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Apex) and the coastal communities (Oak Island, Southport) are engaging through local neurodivergent support meetups, mental health classes, and national virtual resources.

The Triangle Region of Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, & Apex

The close-knit communities in southwestern Wake County feature active networks for parents of neurodivergent children and individuals managing ADHD:

  • Apex: Local parents can join the Grounded Together Coffee Hour for Parents of Neurodivergent Kids on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Foxtail Coffee. It is a casual, no-agenda social gathering to share experiences, tips, and build community support. Additionally, mindfulness and emotional regulation practices—highly beneficial for ADHD management—are being taught this season, including a Youth Mindful Art Expression class starting November 9 at the Halle Cultural Arts Center.
  • Holly Springs: The town leans into broader neurodivergent support, leading directly into the annual Holly Springs Autism Acceptance Day coming up on November 7, 2026, at Sugg Farm. Local organizations like SwiftLyfe Coaching have also historically hosted expressive arts and self-care series tailored for ADHD awareness.
  • Fuquay-Varina: Local support stems heavily from the Wake County Community Collaborative networks and local healthcare providers who utilize October to circulate ADHD treatment directories and educational toolkits.

The Coastal Communities of Oak Island & Southport

In Brunswick County, ADHD Awareness Month is observed primarily through regional healthcare outreach, library resources, and community health networks:

  • Southport & Oak Island: Local library branches, such as the Harper Library in Southport, frequently highlight mental health and educational literature during awareness months. For physical outlets that help with focus and hyperactivity, the Oak Island Recreation Center runs regular community wellness and active movement classes.

How to Get Involved Virtually

Because much of the 2026 coalition programming is digital to reach as many households as possible, residents in all five towns can participate in global events from home:

CHADD Webinars: Access free educational events like the Getting Started with ADHD webinar series to learn about navigating a new diagnosis or understanding personal experiences.

  • TADD Talks: Listen to daily short audio segments hosted by the Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA), which features ADHD coaches and experts discussing time management, rejection sensitivity, and adult diagnoses.
  • Online Toolkits: You can utilize resources directly from the official ADHD Awareness Month Portal to pull fact sheets, adult self-screeners, and shareable social media graphics to help educate local schools, workplaces, and families.
